Extract Text from Scans and Photos with OCR

Updated August 10, 2026

How local OCR works

The OCR Extractor uses Tesseract.js, an open-source recognition engine that runs entirely in your browser. The first run downloads the language data; after that, scanning happens on your device's CPU with zero network traffic.

Getting the best results

Use sharp, well-lit images with straight text. Rotated or blurry scans reduce accuracy significantly — crop and straighten first with the Crop Image tool if needed.

Select the correct document language. Recognition quality drops sharply when the language doesn't match.
